<lj:music>Breakfast with Hunter</lj:music>

Today is the two year anniversary of the death of Hunter S. Thompson and amazing writer and journalist. Hunter’s work had a major influence on me and is one of the reasons why I got into journalism. I’d like to share three small quotes with you all. I’d like to think they represent the best of Hunter’s insight into politics, life and journalism.

“Well, you see, I… ah… well, I get a strange feeling, I… ah… I sit around here and I look at this place and I just want to get out, you know? I want to flee.” The Rum Diary; Hunter S. Thompson

“Christ, we can’t get away with calling him a pig-fucker,” the campaign manager protested.
“Nobody’s going to believe a thing like that.”
“I know” Johnson replied. “”But lets make the sonofabitch deny it.” Fear and Loathing: On the Campaign Trail '72; Hunter S. Thompson

"Journalism is not a profession or a trade. It is a cheap catch-all for fuckoffs and misfits - a false doorway to the backside of life, a filthy piss-ridden little hole nailed off by the building inspector, but just deep enough for a wino to curl up from the sidewalk and masturbate like a chimp in a zoo-cage." Hunter Thompson, Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas

    <lj:music>The Clash - Rudie Can't Fail</lj:music>

Sometimes you remember strange things when you’re up all night. And you feel a little strange, sort of like you’re someone else. It’s like waking up in the wrong shoes, except you’re not awake yet. Anyway today is the coldest day in two years, and just a few weeks ago it was sixty. This weather is stranger then my sleep cycle, what a shame. And since I’m up anyway I decided to make myself breakfast. I can’t cook but I remember I used to make a pretty good omelet. I used to know how to make an omelet with mushrooms, shredded cheddar diced ham maybe, all sorts of things. But that seems like a very long time ago and I can’t even picture a scenario in which I’d have the ingredients let alone the know-how to cook them properly. Instead I made a simple two egg omelet with a little bit of sliced ham. Half an hour has passed since I eat my creation and I show no signs of sickness. That’s about all I can say about breakfast. There was a time when I could cook eggs and make omelets but it’s starting to look like that wasn’t me either.

I must be thinking about getting a haircut too much. Anyway I found this little gem and I thought I should share it with you all again.

Jerry the giraffe lived a merry life. His passive aggressive nature secured him a place in the barn right next to the dwarf with the squirrel tattoo. The dwarf, also named Jerry, was fond of the sauce and on occasion would hike up him pants and ride the giraffe around town. At which point Jerry the passive aggressive would use his camouflage reflex to turn into Dolly Parton.

    <lj:music>Westbound Train - Seven Ways to Sunday</lj:music>

I’m feeling so tired today. I still haven’t picked up my last check from Ricky’s but this time it’s my own fault. I took Dee Dee to Queens and fell asleep on the ride back and now I can’t wake up. The semester is practically over and I still have so much work to catch up on. I’m getting my wisdom tooth pulled Sunday, until them I’m in utter pain. Dee Dee and I have decided to go to Florida for spring break after all; maybe I’ll even see Kashew. I’m already looking around for another job, though I like being a bum, and I think Dee Dee likes me that way too.

Give me a reason to keep all together
Sing me a song and help me to believe
Don’t know the turn, don’t know where I’m going
Help me to see how life should be
Which way’s the high road?
I’m screwing up at school, a lot. And I might have to drop journalism which by the way is my major. I’m pretty pissed off about that but I just don’t see myself doing all the required interviews with my work schedule and everything. I wonder if I’ll keep my job after Sunday, I hope so. Anyway I managed to get Halloween off from work. Halloween off from Ricky’s! That’s insane! I must be magical, well me and Joanna are magical. I’ve been so tired of Halloween but I don’t know, I’m looking forward to it. I haven’t thought much about my costume (The White Rabbit from Alice in Wonderland) but I guess it’ll come together at the last minute like always. Joanna picked me up from work and then I woke up Dee Dee because I really wanted to see her. I should be writing an English paper and trying to salvage my journalism class, instead I’m eating mints from my bag and they’re kind of making me sick. Finally, Halloween can come and go. No holiday should last a month, except maybe Deirdre’s birthday and even then only because I love her.

Fucking Brian’s here.

    <lj:music>Flogging Molly - Laura</lj:music>

Un-friggin believable. Flogging Molly was unbelievable. They are defiantly my favorite live band now. We went threw all this crap trying to get in because a bartender stole my ID at a wedding but I was well worth the wait. Every song would start and I’d scream “I love this song” and disappear in the crowed. Which was really good too, they were a good bunch of kids. Whenever someone fell people would pick them right up again and the mashing was a lot of fun, I really got into it. Deirdre was so amazing, she was sweaty and Irish and proud and dam sexy. Towards the end a big guy started throw people up and a huge girl seemed to come from the rafters and fell on me and Jay who got hit pretty bad, I was fine. The bassist came over and talked with us after the show, Nathen Maxwell (I’ve been trying to remember his name for hours now), he was very cool and seems like a great guy. I was right he does sing Queen Anne’s revenge and Cruel Mistress. Frigging awesome night.

The wedding was great four open bars, nuff said. The toast was longer then I could stand to be away from alcohol,

“I get assaulted by officer friendly” - Scott Sturgeon

On Thursday I screwed up my journalism class and got fired. I was generally bummed until Dee Dee decided that we should go up to Purchas after all and I was looking forward to a weekend of drinking and partying at another collage. We meet up on Friday around 4 and took the N train together, then we tried something new and took the shuttle train where a creepy man kept staring and telling me that I’m lucky. The Metro-North worked out fine and the Purchas bus came promptly, right out of the bus we meet Joe and the weekend was on its way. While waiting for Christina we meet a guy named Paris who took pictures of us at the bus stop. We went on a beer run with a girl named Alison who turned out to be very cool and not just the one with a car and things were falling into place. At Joe’s dorm we finished the Heineken and decided to head out and check out what kind of parties these kids were paying for. The party turned out to be lame, and I apologizing for not being Hungarian to a girl who stared at me as if she hadn’t asked me if I was a minute ago. Flip cup ended and I didn’t feel like I missed anything. Outside I pushed Joe down a hill in a shopping cart to liven up the night but that only lasted seconds, soon we decided to head to Alison’s and regroup. Joe and Christina vanished and we stole Joe’s friends before leaving for cigarette break. On the way to Izzo’s dorm we meet Joe who demanded to show us “The Elephant Tree” rather then go upstairs and get properly hammered. Somewhere along the way a drunk-girl and her unnamed one-time-use lover attached themselves to us and we sat together under a tree hunted by the ghosts of Native American children and drank and smoked. When from behind a flashlight blares and we hear “Put your mother-fucking hands on your mother-fucking head… …and don’t fucking move!”, we assume the position. Christina comes out from behind a tree and we all get patted down, except me of course. While we walk with the cops to their office they pick up two more kids, but once we got there the same people who were screaming profanities at us turned into the nicest group to ever dawn a badge. They joked with us and gave us cigarettes while Joe and I convinced them to let Dee Dee and Christina go home with us even though they were minors. Joe went to his dorm to pick up the rest of our beer and a guy answered the “do you have anything on you” question with a cheery smile and “Beer!” as he pilled two cans out of him pocket. We were escorted to a room to wait for the 7:30 bus to White Plains where we sang and make Officer Williams take pictures of us on Dee Dee’s camera just for kicks, then we fell asleep. I woke up to screams of “You’re missing the bus” and “Come on run!” some one stuck a Polaroid in my hand and we were shoved on a bus. The driver yelled that he was part of the Metro North and we were holding him up but we paid no attention to him until he demanded money that the senior officer promised to pay. I was ticked off, but what could we do but pay? The Polaroid turned out to be of us that the cops took while we were sleeping. The Metro North took us to Grand Central and the N train took me and Dee Dee home. On the walk we joked about the letters of Persona Non Grata we received and argued about when we should go back to be arrested for trespassing.

...it looks like I fixed my Journalism class, found a new job and got Flogging Molly tickets, boya.

I was trying to make sense out of a full monday of classes and ended up turning it into a thing for English. Here’s a bit:

First Class: Journalism
“My name is bob but I’m not the embodiment of Bobness” – Professor Blaisdell on definite and indefinite articles.
“This is ridicules, I’m hungry!” - Blaisdell on uninteresting story.
“… and I recommend you all to try this, I interviewed Allen Ginsberg once but the tape broke and I ended up with nothing. No wait don’t try that.” – On recording interviews.

Second Class: Math
“If you’re a sick passenger on a train may I ask you that you please get off” – Professor Greenberger on being half an hour late
“I feel bad and want to leave” – A sentence I said way too loudly
“Let’s think about pie!” – Greenberger on… …Pi

Third Class: Fear of Falcon Planet (Spanish)
“Mentiroso! I call him mentiroso!” – Professor Falcon-Paradi on lying

Fourth Class: English
“…that’s pretty wild, how (Aristotle) got it so wrong. We all agree that woman aren’t monstrosities… [dead silence] …don’t we?” – Professor O’Malley on Aristotle’s Generation of Animals.
“Aye, they’re after me luck charms!” – Thing I really wish Susan O’Malley would say.

Fifth (Last) Class: Health
Notes inexplicably missing

I’m going away this weekend to do some major partying, are you?

[Edit] Deirdre's great, oh my freaking god she's so hot.
Yesterday was my birthday. I was being an unbearable prick but what the hell, it's my birthday. I was really dreading it but it was pretty good. I don't think I hate my birthday anymore. Today is weird no one knows if it's Tuesday or Thursday, it's madness. This girl got a nose bleed in English, it's good to know there are others out there, out there in my English class. There's something going on on campus, they're filming some graduation or something and there are cable trucks everywhere. I was outside by the water having a cigarette and a police helicopter flew over me so low that I instinctively hit the ground. It was very unnecessary and made me drop my cigarette into the water. Then this guy paid me to write him an essay, I'm should do that now. Mmmm, muffin…

So yeah. Spring break was good. It ended too soon, I wanted to have at least one more shindig but you know how these things go… I don’t think I realized that I’ve been back in school until I almost go lost with Carolina trying to get off campus today. (P)antheon smells and Jim Dylan will ride again. Last night was spent in the airport and man I felt sick this morning. And my English class vanished on me. Deirdre’s this awesome person, just wanted to get that out there. I made friends with a bus driver who’s name I can’t remember on one of my 10am beer runs during spring break. Something, yeah.

Owl’s Head is under patrol and there are camera’s in the Zen Garden, the 76th stairs are being watched and even the alleyways aren’t safe. They won’t win. There are still places, spots where we can go and be relatively safe from those who want to stop us. We can’t let them win, we won’t. They can take our beer, they can take our money but they can’t take our light hearted alcoholism. Fallow the loud and pretty (I’m loud and she’s pretty) and it’ll be okay.
